The day was filled with discussions on new Canvas features, the future of education, the impact of generative AI, strategies for student success, and the exciting opportunities that emerge in a world of constant disruption.
Among the conference highlights was the proud moment when OES Learning Designers, Vanessa Jefferson and Christina Lee took the stage. 2. OES & HEX: Unlocking Graduate Potential
In September, our headquarters co-hosted the Unlocking Graduate Potential event in partnership with HEX.
This event brought together a diverse group of attendees from SEEK, our partners, and beyond, all united by a common goal: to understand and address the current challenges faced by university graduates in today’s dynamic job market.
Beginning with a lineup of esteemed panelists—Gavin Fleer (Gradability), Yuki Kojima (Swinburne University of Technology), and Deleine Gavin-Cox (BUPA)—we discussed the current challenges faced by graduates in the job market and explored innovative strategies to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and workforce skills requirements . The session also featured a recent graduate who candidly shared his lived experience, shedding light on the realities and hurdles faced by new graduates entering the workforce.
Attendees from HR, recruitment, and academia then engaged in vital discussions about shaping the future of graduates, making it a truly impactful gathering for all involved.
The event highlighted the importance of reimagining graduate employability by focusing on real-world skill development and industry collaboration. One of the biggest gaps we need to close is the disconnect between theoretical academic learning and practical, hands-on experience that employers demand. By bringing together industry leaders, educators, and graduates, we uncovered new perspectives on evolving graduate and employer expectations as our graduates’ transition into the workforce. Olga Cuesta, Associate Director of Corporate Strategy
Key takeaways centered around the value of corporate partnerships in tertiary education to bridge the study work gap, how we as employers can adjust to support the current challenges faced by the new workforce, and redefining the world of work for graduates whose experience has been shaped by the effects the move to hybrid and remote work.
We are committed to continuing this important dialogue and exploring innovative solutions to support our graduates. Stay tuned for more events and initiatives aimed at unlocking the full potential of our future workforce.
3. Coursera Connect
Nicola Cresp, OES Global Growth Officer attended the Coursera Connect held in Las Vegas last month. She was joined by the Construct Education team, part of the OES group based in the US, and gained valuable insights into the US market.
I had the pleasure of joining the international sales team at the Coursera Connect conference. Coursera, one of our key clients in the USA, shared exciting updates on the platform’s use of Generative AI. It was inspiring to hear from their CEO, Jeff Maggioncalda, as he discussed how this technology can reshape education and professional development.
