OES at the 2021 Universities Australia conference

15 June, 2021

Online Education Services (OES) was a proud platinum sponsor of the 2021 Universities Australia conference, contributing to the conversation alongside our higher education colleagues. Key government and university representatives from around Australia spoke at the conference to the COVID-19 inspired theme of ‘A year of change: navigating a new world’.

The Minister for Education, the Honourable Alan Tudge MP, gave a keynote address proposing the key objectives universities should be focussing on, namely; increasing revenue, developing the learning experience, imparting the right skills for the future workforce, and strengthening people-to-people linkages.

The conference also provided the platform to hear distinguished panels speak to a number of core topics such as: Their experience of shifting to online teaching and learning to combat the impact of the pandemic, The lasting impact of COVID-19 on international education, and How universities can future-proof students for ever-changing workplaces.

Read on for our highlights from this year’s conference.

2020 was the year of large-scale educational transformation

As the ramifications of COVID-19 became clearer and universities in Australia, and around the world moved learning to online, providing quality student support in the face of this disruption was critical. As learning swiftly moved online, so did student support requirements.

In a difficult year for both universities and their students, OES, long-time leaders in online learning, continued to work with university partners embracing the challenges of varying levels of digital literacy across their student cohorts, differences in support requirements and flexible assessment delivery. We met the challenge of remaining agile and continued to be at the forefront of technological innovation to deliver scalable, high-quality student support sustainable in a post-COVID environment.

Preparing students for the digital era of workplaces

How a course can help an individual shift industries or advance their careers is the top priority of incoming students, and universities must balance what they want to include in a curriculum with the differentiating factors they know employees want to see in graduates. Students need to be equipped with future-proof skills allowing them to add value to organisations, especially in the ever-emerging digital landscape.

Qualifications designed and delivered by OES are driven by collaboration with our partners and industry professionals to both promote Work Integrated Learning and enable students to thrive in the workplace.
