How AI for Instructional Design is Transforming Digital Learning

At OES, we see AI for Instructional Design as a tool to enhance—not replace—the human elements of education. By thoughtfully integrating AI into our processes while staying grounded in human-centered design, we’re creating learning experiences that are both innovative and deeply personal.

Our approach to generative AI is strategic and intentional. It’s driven by our commitment to designing meaningful, ethical, and impactful learning solutions that empower people rather than overshadow them.

Here’s how we’re using AI to shape the future of learning across three key areas: personalized learning, authentic assessments, and media production.

Personalized Learning

Effective online education meets learners where they are—and AI offers exciting possibilities to make that happen.

We’re creating personalized learning journeys by blending AI tools like intelligent tutoring systems and chatbots with thoughtfully designed content. These tools go beyond simply presenting information— they guide and coach learners, offering Socratic-style feedback to help them think critically and deepen their understanding.

Even as we leverage these technologies, our learning designers play a pivotal role, ensuring every solution is pedagogically sound and tailored to individual learning styles, backgrounds, and experiences. AI opens the door, but human expertise ensures that the learning experience is impactful and effective.

Authentic Assessments

Assessment is critical to meaningful learning, and we use AI to raise the bar.

Our Learning Design teams employ AI to align program objectives, course outcomes, and assessments with precision, maintaining the highest pedagogical standards. From crafting engaging questions to designing scaffolded learning activities, AI helps us create assessments beyond rote memorization.

We also use AI to explore innovative approaches, such as generating ideas for assignments that encourage higher-order thinking and real-world problem-solving—skills students need to thrive in their careers.

How we use AI Media Production

Thanks to thoughtful AI integration, our media production process is faster and more creative.

For example, we use tools like Adobe Firefly to efficiently create visually compelling, copyright-safe graphics. In video production, AI enhances audio quality, generates accurate transcripts, and produces realistic voiceovers—all while keeping human creativity and storytelling at the core.

The result? Media assets that are engaging, professional, and impactful—and are delivered more efficiently than ever before.

A Responsible Approach to AI

We take a measured approach to AI, ensuring every implementation reflects our values and ethical commitment rather than following trends.

We follow clear principles inspired by UNESCO’s guidelines for generative AI:

  • Human-Augmented Design: AI enhances human expertise; it doesn’t replace it.
  • Equity and Ethics: We ensure transparency, accountability, and robust data protection.
  • Human-Centered Design: Every decision we make prioritizes human dignity, cultural diversity, and the development of critical human capabilities.

This approach delivers measurable results. Internally, AI is helping us improve efficiency while maintaining our high-quality standards. More importantly, our clients report increased student engagement and better learning outcomes driven by AI-powered personalization.

AI: Looking Ahead

The potential of AI in education is immense, but we’re not rushing into every new tool or trend. Instead, we carefully evaluate technologies against our ethical framework and long-term goals.

As we move forward, our focus remains clear: to create more engaging, effective, and equitable learning experiences, always with the human element at the heart of what we do.
